Greetings from Moscow! – Top Ten List

Greetings from Moscow, Mr. MacGowan!

As I’ve just bought my 9th and 10th GMT Games (pun intended) along with C3i Magazine Nr20, it seems like a good reason to make an unusual Top Ten List, actually a survey of my little collection [I'm a Russian Moscow resident]

Andrei’s Top Ten List

1. Paths of Glory

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: [Remarkably silent.]

REASON WHY: My first GMT Game and first CDG. Never was the same after that, buying all WWI stuff.

2. Here I Stand

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: Hey, where’re you going to get 6 sober English-speaking Russians required to play that game?

REASON WHY: Being a Lutheran, I was preordained to buy that game. A great international PBEM besides.

3. Gustav Adolf: With God & Victorious Arms

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: And you were even unsure you’ll be able to play this after reading the rules…

REASON WHY: After seeing units trading salvoes and melee pistole-shooting, who can stand not to play?

4. Clash of Giants II

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: What, a low-complexity quickie is # 4 today?

REASON WHY: Say First Ypres in admiration…

5. Prussia’s Glory II

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: Remember your cousin threw her bag upon the table where Prague was being played? It was the Last Day of the World, indeed…

REASON WHY: Puts you inside the mind of Ol’ Fred better than a hundreed books!

6. Successors

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: You still need 4 sober Russians. And not very PBEM-friendly, oh no my precious.

REASON WHY: Elegant design – the game I wish I had made.

7. von Manstein’s Backhand Blow

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: {Defeated by the famous Vodka chit.]

REASON WHY: Frost and thaw, tanks and human waves assaults, a great Ost Front game.

8. Kutuzov

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: Too much misspellings, a strange mix of contemporary and modern location names…

REASON WHY: Get off with you, Mr. Tolstoy, we don’t need a new War and Peace, we just need a fun game and here it is.

9. Clash of Monarchs

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: Come on, you’ve bought it today and it’s already # 9?

REASON WHY: Every game on this list deserves the top place. Period.

10. Pursuit of Glory

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: Another WWI?

REASON WHY: They who dug out Parvus have surely dug deep!

And a big hearty thanks for the games – I’m really enjoying them!
